School Rules and Regulations

The Constitution was written to meet the needs of our country at the time of its very birth. Then later, amendments were written in order to meet the needs of a changing world--voting, prohibition, etc. What rule or regulation in the student handbook could use an "amendment"? Rewrite the rule in the way that you feel it should be worded, and write why you think your wording is better and would be more successful. If you merely rant or complain about a school rule rather than offering a solution with reasonable support, then you are no better than those single-minded townspeople of Hillsboro! :-)

The rule i think should be changed around is the one were we cant use Ipods in the library. I think it should be changed around to say that we can use them aslong as it dosnt abstruct our hearing so we cannot hear a fire alarm. its really boring in the library, you cant talk, play games, or listen to your ipod because of the once every 4 months firedrill.

The majority of people today do not realize that being inside all day learning hinders our education. In ancient cultures, such as the greeks and romans, education was done inside as well as outside. In order for us to truly find meaning in our personal path toward knowledge we must consider the environment in which we educate ourselves. Could concrete walls and artificial lighting possibily confuse the human psyche? The human brain was not developed to be locked in a box all day. I feel that the only way mankind is going to truly find knowledge is by learning in nature. Recently in school while learning environmental issues outside we were asked to go inside by the adminstration. There is no free mind in a cage and school seems all to grey without the seasons coming through the window. The most profound experiences occure when one finds relation between all things. Mendham Highschool needs to get outside and create some geniune knowledge, to do as the greeks and see relation in all things. That is where true knowledge is to be found.

I think that all seniors should be able to get a parking space in the upper lot. The school should expand it so there is enough room for all seniors who plan on driving to school. Juniors who plan on driving to school should be able to have a spot in the lower lot. When it is my senior year, I would be ridiculously angry if i did not get a spot in the upper lot. It's kind of a right and privilege to be able to park in the upper lot when students are seniors.

I think that you should be able to have off campus lunch. This is if you had permission from your parents. There would have to be more rules though saying you have or are in a car so you have a reliable source of transportation. Also there would have to be consequences if you are late that get worse with every offence.

I agree with Mark. I think the ipods should be allowed in the library as long as they are not distracting anyone. Also the library itself should be divide into sections such as reading and studying section, computer research, games section, etc. That way it will be much more useful.

I havent been in the school long enough to know the rule book that well but it seems more fair and relaxed than my old school. The one rule i think should be changed is that you should be allowed to drive of campus for lunch. I think that their should be some type of signing out and in system for lunch so that kids would be allowed to eat lunch out side of school.

I would go ahead and have to agree with Richard and Frank. Even before reading the blogs i thought of this one immediately. If there was a consequence for being late then it should be a school rule for allowing students to leave. The food that they serve at the school is not even good for you. Pizza, soggy chicken, pirogies, and mozzarella sticks are not the best foods for lunch. Students should be allowed to go to kings or wicker basket to get food. Also having the same lunch over and over every day makes the food less appealing. Kids should also be allowed to leave if their parents pick them up and bring them to get food, even without a note or signing out.

i agree with mark about the ipods. When im in the library i get very bored. I want to listen to my ipod but i cant cause of the rule. When i have nothing to do and there are no computers open i just sit and gaze into space. The time would be gong alot faster if i could listen to me music.

I believe that students should be able to drive off campus for lunch. if students do not come back, thats their own fault and consequences. Students should know that leaving school completely is not allowed. i also think that ipods should be allowed in the library. the library is a nice peaceful place to go, and if kids were allowed to use ipods, it would help prevent the urge to talk. it will keep them distracted

I would have to agree with mark because I am in the library and I am told that I am not allowed to use my ipod when I am quiet and my music is not loud enought that it is distracting to others. The school should change the policy of not leaving school to get food as well but should have serious consequences if students do not return. Besides those rules then i would not change or amend any other rules or regulations.

I think that teachers should not be able to give so much work, and the students should not be punished if they do not complete homework. Home work is supposed to help students, and when they get so much homework they loose intrest so homework does not help they the students at all.

I think that there should be parking spots for any one that who can drive instead of just the seniors. I realise that its one of the priviledges of being the oldest in the school but it would be nice to have parking be sared by everyone instead of just some.
