Current Events

It is so much easier for us to find out about current events today than it was in the 1920's of Hillsboro. Hornbeck's news articles could only be read outside of the city limits of Baltimore when "clippers" clipped the articles and sent them to Drummond, Brady, etc. What recent news event or events are "clipworthy" enough for you, personally, to stay tuned to the daily articles about them? What are your opinions about this event/issue? What makes you keep "tuning in" to articles, broadcasts, and interviews related to the event?

me "personaly" i dont keep up with current events, mainly because i dont care. if its important enough such as a life threatening disease or something like that then maybe. the only news that ever comes on anymore is about "the war on terror" which was supposed to be over about 4 or 5 years ago with President Bush's "mission accomplished speech". hence why i personaly dont watch the news

The issue that is a constant interest of mine is global warming. Recently there has been research done showing how species, particularly birds and plants, have been migrating and budding earlier than in previous years. The reason this interests me is due to my love of nature. The more I tune in and read the more I realize how much is changing so fast and how much need there is for a change to occure in mankind.

I honestly don't stay updated with current events by reading about them. I know about them by hearing from friends and family or being a part of a discussion. The newspaper and the news channel aren't for me. I know this is not a good choice, but i don't find current events interesting enough to really care about the matter.

I don't normally watch the news or read the newspaper. But it is important to know what is going on with your surroundings. So I am not sure what is really worthy to be a clipping or not. But the news today is very bias and needs to stop taking sides I want to watch the news and be able to make my own decisions not being persuaded to one side.

I rarely watch the news and do not follow current events. I do have opinions on which events are really news worthy like global warming, abortion, and gay marriage. These types of contriversies turn into long political debates which is why I chose not to follow them to closely

I think most of the people who stay up on current events are not high school students. So far 4 of the 6 people on this blog have not kept up on current events. And I will be the 5th. I rarely watch the news and i usually do not listen to current events. If i had to choose a topic right now it would probably be the presidential candidates. I personally do not want Hilary Clinton become the next president. Also i think that the War in Iraq is a big issue. After Bush gets out of office our troops will be returned and Iraq will be another battle ground. So focusing on the event right now is important, especially if Americans are dying. And also for the fact that we have been in Iraq for six years and we have only lost about 3000 men or less, that is impressive. During the civil war, over 23,000 men died in one day at the battle of Antietam.

I kind of agree with mark. I dont watch the news like him but i know what is happening in the world. I heard about what is going on from friends, family and the occasional channel surfing. Well the one thing i think that should be "clipped" is the wildfire in California.

to be honest, i don't normally keep up with the current events. i hate watching the news, i dont like hearing about all this sick and disturbing things that happen in our world. Although, one event that i know may be happening is global warming. i have heard from many people that it is happening, and from some that its just a rumor. personally, i think there is a good chance that global warming is actually happening. every summer it gets hotter and hotter, and the sun gets stronger and stronger. i get burnt a lot more easily now than i used to.

I do not keep up with many current events because they do not catch my attention. Also another reason I do not keep up with them is because a lot of them are very depressing. The main current event I kind of keep up with the war and global warming because they will affect the future and that is what I have to focus on.

Recently on the news i just had heard that Georgia was in a severe drought and that they only had 80 days of drinking water left. I would stay tuned to the news to hear if they had gotten rain that gave them a sufficient amount of water. But everything these days that are on the news, well almost everything should be followed and not just blown off. We are everyday citizens and we should know what is going on in our world and our country.

I personaly have been paying attention to the Californa wild fires. I think it is a devestaton that should be put under control as soon as possible. I keep turing in to keep updated on how much the fire has destroyed.

I semi agree with mark I dont really keep up with the news except for some newspaper clippings my aunt sent me of my cousins achievements in the army. Any other time i dont really pay attention unless turned or to an interestion topic going threw chanels on the tv or in conversation with friends. But that does not happen often.

I agree with many of the people in our class who do not keep up with current events. I personally do not have time to watch news or read newspaper articles. There are way too many unimportant events happening each and everyday that I do not need to worry about. But on the other hand there are a few events once in while that everyone should know about and those are the events that I consider important. Such events are those that have something to do with our community and might have an influence on us. War, murders around us, and terror are some examples. I usually find out about such events from my friends or family.
