RULES and LAWS: Helpful or Harmful?

Identify a school rule or a law that you find is either particularly helpful or particularly harmful in some way. Explain. What about age-related laws or rules such as with driving, voting, joining the military, etc.?

Rules and regulations can prove to be helpful but also can become obstacles for example, dress code. Comming from a prep school where we had to follow a strict dress code where we had to wear a button down shirt and tie to school every day, I feel the lack of a dress code at mendham provides a stronger work enviroment. The focus that i put on following the dress code can now be put on completing my work.

The law of having a drivers lincense at ther age of 17 helps me and my dad alot. Since i have mine i can now work for my dad and get payed. He is a used car dealer and i when i go to work with him and he buys a car, instead of having to go to his lot to get a driver, he has me and saves him a trip back to the dealership he bought the car at. Also every friday to drives to Penn to go to Manheim Auto Auction to sell his cras. Without needing to pay a trucker to bring the cars there he has me and my sister-in-law when school is over because i can not just skip school to make $100, although i would like to and my sister-in-law is a teacher at Black River Middle School

Mendham High School is a enjoyable place to go. The problems that we are facing in the school systems cannot be dealt with only using one school as a basis. We must keep an open mind and direct our attention to the way we are schooled. At young ages we are forces to learn information that in tern is only being taught at the satisfaction of a small group of powerful decision makers. This combine like system selects only certain information and calls all other more or less important. In ancient societies knowledge was taught in a much different way, a way that gave back more to society. The knowledge we learn is scattered and for the most part lacks a general core. The knowledge of the old, mostly lost through the ages, is the very air we breathe although we often forget. To remember the way is true knowledge and school system that supported this truth would give back to all humanity.

Frank I disagree with a dress code would provide a stronger work enviroment. Students would not have to worry about what they are going to wear then next day, and then can concentrate on their work. Students would also not be picked on for what they are wearing.

I join Salino's opinion of being able to get a drivers Lisence at an age of 17. The reason is because many teenagers, at this age particularly have jobs. Many of their parents have jobs as well.So there are days when parents cant give a ride to their kid or find someone else to help them get to their jobs on time. It is very mature and helpfull to have a Drivers Lisence at such age, not only because of the jobs many of us teenagers have, but to simply be able to get where we want and when we want without depending and waiting on someone to help us.

I think that one of the best and most helpful laws that the U.S. has is the acceptance into the military from high school or when you turn 17. This allows teenagers the opportunity to go to college and get a good job. It is better for the united states as a whole because while that person is in the military, they could develop or maybe discover something that people have been trying to find for years. They can give us better technology and a better future. It also allows our job employment rate to stay at 6 percent while most countries are at about 10 or 15.

Having the driving age in New Jersey be 17, is helpful. Being more mature and experienced makes it more safe for everyone on the road. In Florida, the driving age is 15. I find that to be extremely dangerous. Having teenagers who aren't as mature as 17 year olds is not safe for all the drivers on the road. Being more mature means making smart decisions.

I'm not saying that these law is harmful but I find it to be kind of absurd. You have to be 19 in the state of NJ to buy any tobacco products or even a lighter. 21 is the age to be able to legally consume or buy alcohol. But at the age of only 18 you can join the military and die for your country. If you are willing to risk your life i think you deserve to be able to drink alcohol or have a smoke. I personally don't smoke so I'm not being bias with my opinion, but I think that this is a little bit ridiculous.

Rules such as attempting to hinder young smokers is the reason why there is a law against anyone under the age of 19 buying lighters or cigarettes .I think this law is a little feeble if the government really wants to cut back teens smoking and progressively killing them self at an early age they would need to ban smoking in public and private property for everyone under the age of 19. Although it will not stop people older then 19 to smoke it will give a chance for teens to get their lives in order before dooming themselves.

i think that all rules are put in place because they are helpful. the only way rules are harmful is if someone breaks one of the rules. a good example speed limits, they are put in effect to slow people down to a safe speed for that certin section of the road. the only way there harmful is if you break the speed limit and crash into a tree.

i think that a rule that is harmull and also helpfull is the 4 year difference to date someone, four years or over is considered statuatory rape, but theres maybe someone you really like who is 15 and you are 19 but yet you can't date because of the 4 year difference.

Rules and laws help in so many ways but also it restricts our freedom. For example, dress code. What you wear is your choice and what you want to be. I agree that girls have restrictions but if someone to chooses to look like a person from jail with their pants to there knees, then thats their choice because they wish to look like that. But i do agree with everyone that rules and laws help everyone in most cases.

Laws are made for our protection, to help us be safe and productive. Like the seatbelt law, no one likes to wear thier seatbelt for whatever reason but its designed to keep us safe and prevent death, which is kinda helpfull in my opinion. Although laws like the dirnking age being a higher age than the one you need to join the military and fight for your country is pretty lame.
