Cuckoo's Nest: The "Combine" and other Themes

Like Ken Kesey, artists and writers use their work to comment on issues which concern them in society. Kesey seemed to be concerned with issues like the abuse of POWER, the mistreatment and shaming of people who are WEAK or DIFFERENT, the loss of INDIVIDUALITY, the problems created by what some consider PROGRESS. Which of these issues concerns you the most? Who is responsible? What are some possible solutions?

something that concerns me the most is the mistreatment of people who are "different". everybody just follows one person who considers themself cool and pick on the others who dont want to be ths sheep. theres really nothing we can do to stop it, everyone wants be to accepted so they immitate "the cool kids"

The "Power" issue concering me most. Most cops and law enforcers abuse thier power. I am not saying that all the Police, Troopers, Ect. are bad people but i can say that most do abuse their powers. My generation has been brought up to fear police, which is a horrible thing. Cops are ment to be there to help you and be your friend. But when kids hear the sirens their hearts skip a beat as their minds wonder what have I done wrong? I can not even begin to think of a solution that could change all of youth America's feelings twords law enforcers.

Out of the the choices, the one that concerns me the most is the "shaming of people who are weak and different". Even though people don't want to admit it, there are still certain people who are targeted as "losers". "popular" people or athletic people sometimes tease other kids about looks, weight, ethnicity, and/or mental diseases. Just as mark said, everyone wants to be accepted to they try and be like the "popular" kids so they in turn make fun of other people. It all starts with something small and then progresses.

The issue that concerns me the most is the shaming of people that are seen as week or different. We live is a society where being different is being wrong. Any wise man knows that there is not just one way to live, that there are many ways to live all at once. If there were a planet somewhere out there inhabited only by what we see as crazy people I often wonder where I would stand. How would I be treated in this parallel world? Diversity brings light to the world and we may realize one day that these so called "crazy" people do their share of balancing the way we exists.

The mistreatment and shaming of people who are Weak or Different concerns me the most. Like Mark said about everyone follows the "cool" kid, he is right. They think they are popular and think they can do what ever they want. Well they can't. Although certain kids consider there self the popular kids, everyone has there own group with ther own popular kid. Who do not mistreat a person because they are friends.

The one issue that concerns me the most, is mistreating people who are different. Nobody is perfect and everyone deserves to dress, act and be who they want. It is so disgusting how someone can be mean to or hurt someones feelings for being different than most people, not to mention extremely shallow.

I am most afraid of abuse in power. There are some police officers that joined the force just because they were picked on when they were little. Now they abuse there power just to feel good about them seleves. They also can do what ever they want on duty even if it is against the law.

what concerns me the most between all three of these problems is the shaming of people whop are different. as you can see i am very different from every single one of you sitting here today, my clothes, my mind, the way i talk, the way i think, everything, but still because im different people put me down or shame me and theres nothing we can do about this because this is whats called ignorance.
