Advertisements and Commercials

Advertising is generally what pays the bills in many industries. Marketing a product takes creativity and the ability to PERSUADE. Have you ever bought a product solely on its advertisers' ability to market that product? Identify a particular advertisement that you have seen or heard that is particularly persuasive (i.e. television, radio, billboard, magazine, newspaper, etc.). What kinds of PERSUASIVE DEVICES do they use to entice the general public or a particular age or social group? Have you seen any ineffective advertising?

Yes, i have been persuaded into buying a product because of advertisements on television, internet and magazines. On television my family and I saw the commercial for the icy hot patch. My father has daily back pains. The commercial persuaded us into buying it by saying that it was relieve aches and pains in less than 30 minutes, but of course it took more like an hour. The icy hot patch targets all age groups. Anyone with aches and pains could use it. I don't believe i have seen any ineffective advertising. Not all advertising will interest me, but for others it might.

i buy many things just because of the advertisement. I do not like console games like X-box, Playstation, or Gamecube, but i do like Computer Games. There are many computer games that i've bought because i think that the game would be interesting. When making a computer game many people have to work on the software, graphics, plots, and the overall game play. When all these people are working on it, they all need to be payed. This is where the importance of the advertisement comes in. Many people get famous people to do their commercials or very attractive models to try and sell their product. I have seen bad advertisement. I cannot stand the sound of my alarm clock and when people use it in the beginning of their commercials to get the person to look at it, i change the channel. That sounds makes me not want to hear anything about the product.

Advertising is very hard to avoid, it is almost everywhere. I dont think of it as a bad thing because some commercials can be funny and i know many people watch the superbowl mostly for the ad's. Some of the more effective and common persuasive devices used are stating facts and statistics, telling how good things will be if you buy the product, and constant reapeating of certain words like, buy! or the products name. One type of advertisement that i know works on me is when planes fly over the beach with a message on the back. I remeber many days over the summer when me and some friends would be at the beach and see some place advertising an event that night which is where we ussually would end up.

I do not recall on buying anything because i saw it advertised. Yes i bought a PS3 but not because of the commericials with the floating baby, but because i wanted to upgrade from a PS2 to a PS3. My favorite commericial is the Verizion Fios commericial. Ever time it is on i do not change the channel because I just love watching what the little boy says and does. If the little boy was not in it i believe that i would just pass by the commericial without anythought.

I have been persuaded into buying products just because of the advertisment. For example you all remember the berries and cream starburst commercial with the man dancing around singing the "berries and cream" song. They used comedy persuade people. I find this method to be very effective.

Yes, when i was younger i would base my purchases on advertiseing. I was young and vounerable. They would make their products look like it was the best thing on earth and pull you in little by little to persuade you to by their products. It depends on the product for which age range they are broadcasting to. Yes they do go after different social groups they arent going to put womens clothing advertising on a childrens channel such as cartoon network. No i believe that all advertising has effects.

Watching television can really persuade people to buy a companies products. I remember i was watching the television once and there was a commercial for a tanning salon in Ledgewood with a new, really nice tanning bed. The commericals made the skin tone on these girls look really nice, so i went.

The most effective advertising occurs when the subject feels, at an extreme, that they cannot exists without whatever is being advertise. It is all about adding something to your self, or so you would think from all these commercials. People are constantly giving you the idea that your in need of something else, that it isn't here its over there. That is the travel that advertisers hope for, from here to there. Here is unsatisfaction there is being fully satisfied. If you watch carefully you will notice that there is never a here at all in the mind of television its always a there. Ineffective advertising is advertising that is not mind candy. If it dosn't get you right there right at that second you are lost forever and the mission is shut down. Who knows the vital time needed to get inside our minds and turn us crazy against the need for more. One second, maybe two where its all tada and that feeling, if sucessfully advertise, will captivate.

no actually i havent bought anything just on the advertisers'ability to market that product which btw turned out to be a good thing for me. insurance companies know very well how to advertise their product when they are using percentage for most of their research and percentage is never too reliable but it makes it sound like a whole lot more numbers than it actually is, they talk about discounts on a first teenagers acident, thay use percentage, images of accidents and saying that they prevent it or they make you feel safer with their new inssurance, a whole bunch of crap they just wanna sell to you.

In advertisements the advertisers use many techniques to sell their item. Using scientific studies and real examples like sports drinks so often use is a very good technique that helps sell a lot of product. Also advertising restaurants by showing how delicious looking their food is can attract many customers. Presentation is a huge way of getting people to but your product.

I have bought a product based on just its advertisement. The product is TAG and they use repitition of how the smell of will attract women. You see the advertisements on tv during commercial breaks. They try to lure teenagers as the general social group or anyoe who wants to attract women. No i haven't really seen any ineffective advertising.

All television ads and infomercials are out to get people into buying cheap, poor quality, products in which last very little in time. The main marketing stratetgies they use are trying to reach out towards young teens. Teenagers in our times are amused by anything, anything that looks cool, and makes you look cool. Most of these ads though are false advertising and should not be allowed on television.
