Protest Songs

For our classwork this week, we will be looking at songs and speeches which demand that people look more closely and think about a specific issue or problem in society. Some do so gently; some inspire listeners to action. Look at the lyrics and related information for one of the protest songs on the following 60's website and comment. Can a song change the world? What makes some more persuasive than others? www.sfheart.com/protest/index1.html

When i think of protest songs the first thing that comes to my mind is Bob Marley. I think that his anti-war/ pro peace message extends beyond the continent of Africa. Through his music Bob Marley has made a tremendious impact on peace-minded activists around the world. Although a lot of people today enjoy his music ultimitally they understand the message that he is trying to get across.

I do believe that a protest song could change the world. If one person hears a song that is about protest, and agree with it, they will tell other people about this song that may agree with it aswell. This could lead to a great amount of people who agree with the song, those people will then take action in changing the world. Songs that are more persuasive than others are songs that talk about all different parts of the world, and the worlds system. This opens up peoples eyes in realizing that the world does need some fixing up.

In my opinion a song cant change the world, but the people who heard it could. There are many songs that are written about a specific issues which happen in our world. Many people dont watch news because they find it boring, but a lot more people listen to songs. A "Protest Song" will show and describe a certain issue in the different way then the news will. A song can touch our hearts and make us want to make our world better. Its our world and we have to set it the way we want it.

I believe that a song can change the world. Song is one of the best ways to get people to understand where you're coming from and why you have the point of view that you do. Song can spread extremely quicky and some people or politicians bring it up as a topic. If that happens then you're song can really do some good. A protest song is a great way to get other people to see you're point of view and do know why you want to fight for yo're right. Depending on the intensity of the song it can mean more to different people. For example if i wrote a song about the war in Iraq, families with songs and daughter would become more emotional then other, even though everyone who listened to it heard what was said. So i believe that song is one of the best ways to spread an idea or message to people.

A song can change the world. A song for example that was trying to change the world is Mosh by Eminem. It was for the election of 2000. The goal of this production was to make a video that inspired young people to vote. To show them that political decisions do impact their daily lives and that voting is the most powerful act we all have to voice our opinion and effect change.

A protest song can not change the world. Even if a protest song is affective only half the people belive what is says. The other half probably has a completly different opinon and will never change their minds.

Can a song change the world? I beleive that songs can change the world. Its just how they are broadcasted and what situations they are for. I believe taht what makes a some more persuasive that others is the language they use. You have to be able to understand what the message is that they are tring to send.

Some protest songs can definitely change the world. If there is a big war going on and most of the human population in American is against it, the song will be heard by people all over. The radio will play the protest song and many people from all over will hear it, people will talk about the song and eventually, the song will change the world and change peoples opinions on a certain war/shooting/election.

Songs of protest have long been in use throughout ages of man. However when I think of protest songs I think of songs that inspire the mind to explore. The protest conducted is a pale reflection of the inner action. Songs from The Doors like Break on Through and The End are more revolutionary because they spark the fire. It is songs like these that will change the world, songs that show you how to wake up. Look around some will say and war might be your glance however this is secondary. What open your eyes to the world? What showed you the rose clinched in fist? The real revolution happens in your mind and the rest manifests in the world as reaction. The protest is the ripple from a rock that was thrown by the beggining, the spark that starts it all.

when were tlking about persuasive songs i tink about the songs that are harsh with very moving and touching words because thats the only way you can get a point across a human, spetially a rich human. he needs the image he needs the affect he needs the words. music can change the world and it certainly has alwready, some songs with harsher voice and imagery tend to be more persuasive then a calm song.

A song is it is powerful and speaks the masses in the right way it could change the world but that is very hard to do these days. A song can be very inspiring and that uses real examples makes a song persuasive. A song that can speak to the wants and needs of the individuals not just the overall population will make a very strong song. Having these elements make a good song of protest.

A very powerful song about protest, religious, or even a social problem in society. It can inspire an entire nation or even very big groups of people. The lyrics from whom they come from can impact someone deeply. If there is a song with a great lyricist then it might impact people because of how great the lyrics are and how they are said throughout the song.

I believe that protest songs are strong and powerful and can change peoples minds. Protest songs can be appealed to many people because they can be written in many different genres. Protest songs exercise the freedom of speach. Many protest songs are from people against war and that believe in peace. I find protest songs very influencial. Also I agree with everone here who has commented and everyone thinks what they want about protest songs.

i think that protest song can and have changed the world. if a song gets big enough and it gets enought attention then it can change the world. i also think that the protest song must not be too long and i think it must clearly display the meaning of the song or people will get bordd of the song and the point would be lost.
