Minor Characters

Most of you asked several questions about the novel's main characters on your HSPA "tests" last week. Identify one MINOR character who, although minor, plays an important role in the book in terms of what the character discovers about life or about him or herself. Then explain why that character is important in that way.

**We will define "minor character" here as one who ONLY appears in one scene of the novel, not one that appears in several chapters of the novel. (10 points)

Parkie Denton was Mary's homecoming date. Parkie realized, after going to the homecoming dance with Mary that he didn't have any friends. He simply followed a specific group of guys around school and they were only nice to him because he drove his dad's cadiliac.

In catcher in the rye, Holden Caulfield is the main character, all other characters in the book seem to mirror an aspect of his personality. The one that Holden is most like is his history teacher from Pency, Mr. spencer is a lot like Holden although Holden doesn't want to see it right now. He is like Holden because they are both intelletuals and well read while being kind of sickly and geeky. They are also very protective of people who are basically good and innocent. They both wear corny things like Holdens baseball hat and Mr. Spencers Navajo blanket. Holden doesn't know it yet but he probably make a good teacher down the road.

Jack Kerouac, know in the novel as Sal, for a short time stayed with a Frenchman by the name of Remi. While staying with Remi, Sal finds a great envy of Remi for being such a happy, laughing person, who above else was just in it for the joy. Later on in the story Sal later looks back and thinks about Remi and the way he lived and by doing so changes some of his decisions.

I think the police chief from the beginning of the book from when he gets arrested. He sets a mood for the entire book, of you being frightful that Christopher is going to get in trouble. This is because right in the beginning he says don't try to be a hero and find the real murderer. He tells Christopher that he will be in big trouble if he is caught doing something wrong again. So he sets a mood for the entire book, which makes him a very important minor character.

I think a minor character with a big impact in the book is Huck's father. After all, he is Huck's reason for running away. So indirectly Huck's father played a very important role in the book.

In Murder under the palms by Stephanie Matteson, the main, but minor character would be Dede, Mariannes daughter. She is in her teenage years. she was about to go to college, and start her own life. She was ready to get away from her family, but her mother was against her going away to college. at this time Dede was trying to figure out who she really was. she played an important role in this book by determining weather or not Marianne stays in Palm Beach, Florida or not.

duddits was a minor charector. he was only talked about twice in the novel, first in the beginning when he gets saved by the kids and he gives them the powers and second at the end where he shows his true form. other than that he is not a major charector. he is vital to the plat because he is the one that has to fight off mr. grey and he is also the one who gives the boys their powers witch really help out.

In my book there weren't any minor characters that played an important role in the book. But a character who appeared only once in the whole story was a new teacher at the Maycomb County Middle School. That was the school where Scout and Jeremy Finch went. She was most likely a young teacher who just graduated from college. Scout and the other students in her class helped the new teacher to get familiar with the people in town. But there certainly wasn't anything major about this character.

One important minor character would have to be the doctor. The doctor was the final proof that Ben was telling the truth about the entire story. The alledged slingshot was made by the doctor which proved Madec was lieing. The doctor as proof decided the entire case. That evidence alone that it was made by the doctor let the jury make their final decision.

One minor character that plays an important role in Roys career in the Majors in Harriet. Harriet because in the beginning of the book she shot him in the chest. It mad Roys career be delayed. That is what i believe to be what nade the unresolved conflict from the last post, when i talked about the newspaper headline with Roy in it. It all started with Harriet.

In my book there was two little kids who were brothers. They asked Holden which musuem had the mummies in it. This was importent because it Holden after answerwing them went toe the musem himself. All the questions he asked himself in the book came together in the musuem.

Walowick, is a soldier that was raciest, and was on Richie's squad in the book Fallen Angels. This character is minor yet so major. Even though Walowick is rarely spoken of but, in his parts during the story he over comes his racial views, and bonds with his squad so the power of them can surive the war.

I would have to say that some minor characters would have to be Les Stanton and Denny O’Neil they were Madecs two lawyers their not really to important because they don’t talk much in the book the fighting is mostly between ben and madec. Two other characters would be Sergeant Hamilton and his uncle Sonja. The lesser characters add a little to the suspense of the story but all the plot is developed between Ben trying to make everyone believe that he didn’t kill the man in the desert but Madec did, even though Madec tricked the people to believe him.
